Our 10th Anniversary

A MILESTONE ACHIEVED

Back in 2013, following the Yarnell 19 tragedy and the subsequent services and events to

honor their memory and sacrifice, it became apparent to the pipe and drum members of the various

agencies across the state of Arizona, that it was time to organize our agencies and resources.

Phoenix Fire Pipe Major, the late Gary Johnstone envisioned a standardized group of fire department pipes and drums

from across Arizona. With these preceding events, a core group of members decided to hold a meeting. In the latter part

of 2013 the first meeting was held in a conference room at Chandler Fire Headquarters. The result was the formation

of the Arizona Fire Service Pipe Band and the first Executive Board was elected, headed by unanimous nomination of Sean Cahill,

of Surprise Fire Medical, as the first President and Pipe Major.

In the years since our inception, we have standardized our sets and brought together the pipes & drums from across the entire state. We play together, support each other, and learn together, continually expanding our knowledge, abilities, and proficiency.

We have organized and executed a pipe & drum school that we host annually, for the betterment of our members and those from

all across the country that would like to partake. We bring in some of the best piping and drumming instructors from around the

world to teach, challenge, and improve our collective sound and ability.

We continue to assist the various agencies and municipalities around the state with their events and memorials. We are stronger in numbers and strive to represent the very best of fire service tradition.

IN COMMEMORATION

In commemorating this milestone of our existence, we have come up with some new designs and will unveil various merchandise items with the new graphics.

As well, by unanimous consent of the Executive Board, we have decided to design an

official Arizona Fire Service Pipe Band tartan to represent our organization, and pay homage to our state of Arizona and our members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This will be an endeavor that we aim to solidify this year.

This design commemorates our 10th Anniversary and contains our new tartan sett.
