Leonard (Len) Wood started piping with the Adirondack Pipe Band in Fort Edward, NY.  At age 12, he took lessons from Kirkpatrick brother, Tom and Harold and Hugh McInnes.  After moving to Phoenix at 14, he joined the Phoenix Scottish Pipe Band, started teaching at 17 and three years later was voted Pipe Major.  He joined the U. S. Navy and played with the Cameron Highlanders, San Diego, then Midlothian Pipes and Drums, Charleston, SC.  Over the years he played with bands in Savannah, GA, Greenville, SC, Hershey, PA, Atlanta, GA and in 1998 moved back to Phoenix, playing with Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band and finally returning to the Phoenix Scottish Pipe Band.

In 2010 he joined the Hugh O’Conor Memorial Pipe Band, Tucson.  In 2009, Len played with the De La Scouts Pipe Band in Waterford, Ireland and continues to play with them at festivals in Ireland and France. This year he rebuilt the Hugh O’Conor Memorial Pipe Band and took them to compete in the All Ireland Pipe Band Championships in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

Len has been in demand as a teacher for numerous Fire Departments in the Phoenix area. He has developed a system for learning to play the instrument that is easy to understand and develops solid players.
